SGP Finals Opening Ceremony

The competitors at the opening ceremony

The 11th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix Finals Opening Ceremony took place at Pavullo today with colour, music and dance. Let the Championships begin!

The people of Pavullo gathered to give the competing pilots a warm and friendly show. A parade of locals joined the competitors as they proceeded up through the town on a lovely, if hot, Sunday afternoon on 26 August. Everyone enjoyed the traditional dances performed by people of all ages in colourful costumes. Accompanying them were musicians playing regional music.

On stage at the end of the parade, local dignitaries and FAI representatives from around the world gave welcome speeches. Each pilot was also invited on stage for a special greeting. Following the festivities, all competitors with their friends and families reconvened at the Pavullo Aeroporto for drinks, a beautiful buffet dinner and a chance to socialise.
